As usual, I'm in a last minute rush for Christmas and I need a suggestion. I'm wanting to buy my dad an IP phone, but he has a dial-up internet connection. I either need to get an adapter which will dial his internet provider or, preferably, buy him a phone which will dial the internet connection, itself. I've found almost nothing on the internet and what I have found doesn't look great. I need suggestions. I have a Linksys 3102 and was wondering if a 2002, or something like that would work in the adapter category. Thanks in advance. |

| Beyond that, the only way I can conceive of using a dial-up modem with a network device like an ATA or IP phone is to configure Internet Connection Sharing in Windows and plug the phone device into the computer's network port (you might need a 10/100 Switch or the right sort of cable too). I'd really test a phone like X-lite (using GSM or iLBC) or SJPhone (using G723.1) first on his computer with only low-bitrate codecs enabled to see if VOIP even works well-enough for you to talk. |

| Just buy a phone with built-in dialup. For example this ATA (Gate 300) will work: Tiger Netcom No. 1 Leading Manufacturer and Leader in IP Phones and VoIP Gateways using SIP, H.323, and MGCP Platforms Ivan SilkCoast Computer |
