v1.0.1 of the wiz is now available. There are bug fixes for the issues mentioned above (dial plan not updated from lines grid, [3469] is properly handled and area codes for non-USA countries).

This may be a good approach. I'm sorry to say that I now have contract work that I must get to so I won't be able to explore gateway ideas for months. I agree that it is an unaddressed area.

I think including such general elements in the wiz such as xx.|*xx.|**xx. as well as all international (011xxxxxx.) would be a good idea and further, it might be nice to add them in a permanent way such that they can be selected or deselected.
The wiz is setup to do this but the database needs to be groomed. The data element database has a column for Include and a column for Select. Permanent items would have Include checked and may/may-not have Select checked. A peek at the databases makes this all clearer.

Also, it may be more user friendly for those that are new to dial plans to add a small description in () as to what "xx." actually means.
The tooltip feature is partially implemented. It is intended to grab the data element descriptions and make them into tooltips.

Quote:
BTW, xx. is "at least one digit", so when xx. is present as an element, having 1 'x' under column 1 would suffice. As of now, there is also an 'x' under column 2.
The UI (user interface) needs a bit of work so that your example and phonemes like comma are better displayed. I am certainly aware that this needs some work and totally agree with your idea. I'm thinking that "xx." should be 3 mini-cells inside a larger cell under a single column.

Would it be possible to have a button that reads "add element" so that new elements do not have to be added to the dial plan string? This may be a way to add a general description of what needs to be added for the newbie in the form a drop down as well.
Perhaps a button but I'm thinking that a right click context menu might be the way to go. There may be a dozen different options that could be put into the right click menu.

I don't know the first thing about programming, so I'm not sure much of the above could be implemented w/o a good amount of hassle.
Your comments are right on the mark and your user interface instincts are quite good for a non-programmer. This type of work really benefits from a bunch of kibitzers.

Bob.

You are correct. The area code selection is broken. You'll have to manually edit the default area code in the dial plan until the bug is fixed. Sorry.

By default, the installer will install the executable to:
C:\Program Files\Softworks Limited\Dial Plan Wizard\Dial Plan Wizard.exe

Unfortunately, the installer is not putting an easily accessible icon on the desktop, start menu or program menu so you are quite rightfully confused.

I plan to update the Wiz when Visual Studio 2005 is released in November.

The grid control will be improved, area code bug fixed, installation bettered.

Sorry for the confusion.
