Default How to detect a VM left on PSTN line

My SPA3000 is configured to ring Line 1 when a call is received on the PSTN line (PSTN Ring Thru Line 1 = yes).
This work fine.

My PSTN line comes with a Voice Mail service.
When a message is left on my PSTN line, the PSTN line tone change to let know there is a VM waiting.

How can I forward the PSTN VM line tone to Line 1 ?
Presently, I have no way to detect I have a VM waiting on my PSTN line from my phone connected to Line 1 ?

I have read the manual and FAQ but found nothing.

Thanks

Can you have a dial plan, say 9#, that allows you to dial out the PSTN line? I'm not sure if the second dial tone wouldn't be that generated by your POTS service though, but I believe it would.

With the SPA3000 nobody will ever hear the POTS Dial Tone directly, so you need to have an external MWI box on the physical line if you don't have Call Forwarding from your phone company to forward calls to your VoIP number if you don't answer. If you engage CFNA in that manner your voice mails will be collected at your VoIP mailbox, which will put a stutter dial tone on your Line 1 phone.

Here are my conclusions on this matter (using firmware 2.0.11g).

As explained by mberlant, in order to get the MWI status of your PSTN line, you need to have an external MWI box connected directly on your PSTN line.

The PSTN dial tone is never pass through Line 1.
The primary dial tone is always generated by the SPA3000.
Even the second dial tone is generated by the SPA3000 when dialling out the PSTN line with a dial plan.

There is an undocumented parameter that triggers a MWI tone on Line 1.
User 1 - Supplementary Service Settings - Message Waiting - Yes/No
This parameter turn on/off the MWI tone on Line 1 whether or not there is VM on Line 1 or PSTN.
I guess this parameter could be used by an external application to trigger the Line 1 stutter tone.

I wish Sipura will implement a "PSTN MWI Thru Line 1" parameter.

Thanks to everybody.

CML,

Try the following, it works for me, just set it up here.

Using 2 FWD accounts as example, but as long as you can call voip from Line1 to your PSTN gateway account.

Line1 888888@fwd.pulver.com (replace 888888 with your FWD number)
PSTN 999999@fwd.pulver.com (replace 999999 with your FWD number)

Line 1 Dial Plan
(<#:999999@fwd.pulver.com>)

PSTN TAB
VoIP-To-PSTN Gateway Setup
VoIP-To-PSTN Gateway Enable: yes VoIP Caller Auth Method: PIN
VoIP PIN Max Retry: 3 One Stage Dialing: yes
Line 1 VoIP Caller DP: 1 VoIP Caller Default DP: 1
Line 1 Fallback DP: none
VoIP Caller ID Pattern:
VoIP Access List:
VoIP Caller 1 PIN: 1234 VoIP Caller 1 DP: none

Pick up phone on Line 1, dial #, you will connect from Line 1 (voip1) to PSTN (voip2), calling 999999 FWD number of PSTN Gateway. This is now a Voip-PSTN call. You will get 3 beeps, enter 1234# (pin number) and you have PSTN Dial tone (Actual Dial Tone of PSTN Line, if VM waiting, you will hear the VMWI Tone on the line). In theory, you should then also be able to dial **1, to hang up the PSTN, and then give you PSTN Dial tone again, so that you can dial your VM Retrieval code, assuming you have VM.

There is probably a couple of other ways, using Voip ID auth list, so you don't have to dial a pin, but the important thing is to set Dial Plan to 'none'.

With a PIN, it does not compromise the security of the PSTN gateway.

Let me know if this works for you.

Mark

Default RE: How to detect a VM left on PSTN line

I found a way to do this without using a PIN.
The solution reside in what I will call the "third" dial tone.

TAB: Line 1
Dial Plan = (xx.<:@gw0>|*xx.<:@gw0>|**S0<:@gw0>|<#9,:>xx.|<#9, :>*xx.)

TAB: PSTN Line
SECTION: Dial Plans
Dial Plan 8 = (<**:>S0<:,>|xx.|*xx.)
SECTION: VoIP-To-PSTN Gateway Setup
VoIP-To-PSTN Gateway Enable: yes
Line 1 VoIP Caller DP: 8

You take the phone. You ear the 1st dial tone. You dial **.
The Line1 dial plan process the ** and force a transfer (S0) to the PSTN Line (@gw0).
You would normally ear the 2nd dial tone but...
The PSTN dial plan immediately process the ** and force a second transfer (S0) to phone number comma "<:,>".
You now ear the 3rd dial tone or, if you prefer, the real PSTN dial tone.
This trick only works with a transfer to phone number comma.

If you have VM waiting on your PSTN line, you will now ear the MWI tone.

Thanks Mark for the idea.

Very elegant. I hadn't tried that far yet. I was thinking of the PIN, as I have a couple of teenagers, that I do not want to use the phone too much
