I'd like to write a program that would, among other things, accept a telephone number from a computer keyboard and instruct a Sipura adapter via its Ethernet interface to dial that number. BroadVoice's Call Manager has a similar feature, though the underlying implementation is obviously different. Problem is, I can't find a way to instruct the Sipura via its Ethernet interface to dial a number. Of course a modem in the computer could tell the Sipura via its telephone interface to dial a number. But many computers don't have modems, so that would be a less desirable solution. Is there a way to tell a Sipura via its Ethernet interface to dial a number? Or has anyone heard of plans to implement such a feature in a future firmware release? Any information about this issue would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I thought about Asterisk. But for the users I have in mind, Asterisk would be too much of a challenge. Maybe I should try to interest Sipura in implementing such a feature.

My thought exactly. Here's what I have in mind: - User types a URL at a computer keyboard. - Computer gets the IP address of the URL from a DNS server. - Computer instructs the VOIP adapter to dial the IP address. - User picks up the handset and starts talking. For users whose adapter is directly on the Internet (not behind a router) no SIP server or other infrastructure would be required. Less potential points of failure should translate into improved reliability.
