Default 3102 dropping calls

I have a 3102 connecting my Asterisk box to the PSTN and my internal home phone wiring. It is really great to open up my existing analog phones to the functionality of Asterisk/VoIP but my wife wants to pull the plug because the calls occasionally drop. This happens on incoming and outgoing calls from/to the PSTN trunk. This doesn't happen on the VoIP trunks that I have on the same box.

The Asterisk log doesn't show any error messages to speak of. It just states that the call is hanging up.

My network looks like DSL Modem --> Linksys WRT54G (Linksys firmware) --> Linksys 8 port switch --> Asterisk box AND --> 3102.

I would appreciate someone pointing out what I should be looking at to narrow down and fix the problem. I love the new phone system, but my wife is losing patience when her calls are dropped. This isn't happening in a predictable manner. (the call drops are not predicatable, my wife's patience loss is very predictable) Sometimes calls go on for 30+ minutes with no drop. Other times calls are dropped after a few minutes.

I have googled for "3102 dropped calls", but was surprised that I didn't see this error popping up. I assume that I've got something wrong in the 3102 mammoth setup, but it's hard to trouble shoot via trial and error since I can't manufacture the error on demand.

Thanks.

The first thing to look at after a call drops is the SPA3102 Info tab and see the Last PSTN Disconnect Reason. That could give a clue as to what is happening. The SPA3102 has to detect when the pstn line disconnects because it is an analog circuit and you could be getting a false reading. If you know the technical cause of the disconnect it is easier to determine a solution.

I believe that I have the problem solved. I checked the "Last PSTN Disconnect Reason:" as suggested above right after the call was disconnected. The reason was PSTN Inactivity.

I googled for that an found several examples of solving the problem by switching the "PSTN Long Silence Detect" setting to No.

So far no disconnects.
