Default IPKall number expiry

My ATA adapter is temporarily offline and I am wondering what rules govern expiration of my IPKall number. I recall from the past that it would expire after 30 days of inactivity (although I cannot find this rule anymore on the IPKall pages). Does anybody know the specifics? Is it sufficient that I log on to my account at www.ipkall.com? Is it sufficient if I put the ATA online for some time now? Or do I have to place a call via PSTN to my IPKall number? I will appreciate the info.

Thanks,
Konrad

Default RE: IPKall number expiry

I would suggest regularly dialing into your IPKALL number and answering the call, plus logging in and out of IPKALL's website. This way you can be sure your number is active. Just turning on your telephone adapter doesn't do anything to tell IPKALL that "you're still alive." I believe IPKALL makes an itty bit of money each time your number is called in to, so that's how the service is provided for free.

IPKall is part of International Telecom Ltd, a Seattle-based CLEC. They make a small amount of money on incoming calls.

Thank you for the replies. I have 2 quick questions:
1. Is it necesseary to both log on and get an incoming call?

2. Just purely out of curiousity - how can the provider make money on such incoming calls?

1. Since there is no such thing as logging on to IPKall's SIP switch, the only way to keep active is to receive calls regularly.

2. This discussed in great detail in another thread, but the simple answer is that the company that bills the chargeable party for the call will split those pennies with each endpoint and transport phone company that handles the call.

Default Regarding IPKall numbers Expiring.

Rules of thumb for ALL IPKall users;

IPKall Numbers are recycled if;

If the assign number doesn't have any answered in a 30 day period.

If the email on sign up is returned "undeliverable"

If you abuse the IPKall numbers pool in any fashion.

FYI there are over 10k of active IPKall users all over the world, lets try and keep it free for all by following these simple rules.

Sounds like a good reason to sticky the thread to me.

Does the call have to be answered by someone to keep the IPKall number active, or is it enough to let the voicemail pickup the call ?

Yes, as long as the inbound call is answered in some fashion.
