That is awesome new!! But for some of us using hardware devices like Linksys PAP2, we are still stuck with having (read: forced) to use G711 as there you cannot disable G711 in PAP2. If you set G729a as your "preferred codec" in Linksys PAP2, you will lose way too much in terms of flexibility and many calls will fail ultimately making it a no-go.

The only way we can realize the true potential is if IPKALL can set G79a as the preferred codec in their network backend.

Thanks,

Sanawar

That is a great news; but FWD doesn't support G729a. I know FWD is not necesery to use IPKALL; but I wish FWD was supporting G729s too.

FYI, Voipuser does support G729 as well G723. Voipuser is a decent non-profit provider with an actively moderated forum and pretty helpful community.

Would you give the web address? It is not www.voipuser.com or .net?

I use voipstunt without a number. I have tried setting up my ipkall account with voipstunt in order to receive calls without success. Could the problem be due to the fact that voipstunt uses user names instead of numbers?

I will be glad to hear from anyone who has had success with this.

Default blocked inbounds

Some providers block inbounds.

I check the sipbroker.com web site to see if it was posted there, as that is always my first stop when I want yto know if a provider is blocked.

If you look in the sipbroker.com forums, you may also find an alternatibve for inbounds with a blocked provider.

FWD supports ALL CODECS - the G711 is only mandated for echo, time, and 800 termination (FWD services), but you can call using any codec. I use ILBC by default, except when I call friends with Sippuras (G729), or FWD services (where G711 is the only choice)....

It looks like g729 is low on the list of codec priorities in ipkall system. If a system is offering any other codec in addition to g729 (g729 being the first priority), ipkall will pick other codecs. The only way to make your system work with g729 is to make g729 the only codec supported. We can do that, no problem, I just want to make sure that ipkall is not short on g729 licenses and everything will work fine by allowing only the g729 codec. They don't offer any support (understandable for a great free service) but I thought to ask it here, maybe I'll get a qualified answer.
