Default problems with HT-503

i just purchased a HT-503. Everything works fine except three things:
1. if i dial the VoIP line on FXO port, then i can get the PSTN dialtone but i cannot make calls. basically the DTMF tones are not being recognized.
2. if i dial from PSTN and auto-forward to a VoIP number, then VoIP number continues to ring even after I have disconnected the PSTN line.
3. Aside from the above two issues, I completely lost connection to the HT-503 after I tried to upgrade the firmware by changing the TFTP server to the one specified on Grandstream formware upgrade website.

Any pointers on the above three issues?

listed below is what the status looks like. the device now shows no status for FXS and FXO line. prior to upgrading the firmware, the device showed registered on both lines.

thanks!

I do not have a HT503 but I do have a number of other grandstream devices.

Q.1. if i dial the VoIP line on FXO port, then i can get the PSTN dialtone but i cannot make calls. basically the DTMF tones are not being recognized.

A.1. In the set up you can select how tone are sent. I recomend the following...
DTMF in audio: Yes DTMF via RFC2833: Yes
Q.2. if i dial from PSTN and auto-forward to a VoIP number, then VoIP number continues to ring even after I have disconnected the PSTN line.

A.2. Use a sniffer to see if the SIP protocol issues a disconnect.

Q.3. Aside from the above two issues, I completely lost connection to the HT-503 after I tried to upgrade the firmware by changing the TFTP server to the one specified on Grandstream formware upgrade website.

A.3. I recommend using a TFTP server on your LAN rather then downloading from the internet. Grandstream warns that if the down load get interupted it can screw up the device. You can get free TFTP server free from the internet. Down load the TFTP server app to you PC, then down load the Grandstream firm ware to your PC. Then set up the HT503 to down load from your TFTP server.

R.1. I did this. The tones are recognized now. Thanks!
I have to hold the keys for longer than normal. If the number keys on the calling phone keypad (i.e. the phone that calls the FXO VoIP line after it is patched through to PSTN) are not pressed for long, then the PSTN line does not receive some of the tones.
And I do not receive the CID information for the caller on VoIP FXO number.

R.2. Still cannot fix this since I do not now how to sniff...

R.3. TFTP server did not work for me. Things were messed up even after I created a private TFTP server. An HTTP server did the trick after hours of effort! Anyhow, this issue is solved. Phew!
