Hello, I bought for my aunt a grandstream handytone 286. I configured it here at my house. I wrote down the ip address in case we needed to access the configuration again. I then sent it to my aunt and walked her through connecting it. It immediately worked but I noticed that when I spoke to her (my Gizmo softphone to her handytone) there was stuttering and we frequently couldn't hear each other. She has a Dlink-624 router. I used port forwarding on her router to forward ports 5004, 5005 and 64064 and used the ip address that I had written down. This didn't work and we still could not hear each other. So here is where my real problem begins... So I enter the ip address into internet explorer to reboot her device after clearing her sip settings and I can't access her handytones web configuration? I ask her to confirm her ip address by lifting her phone connected to the handytone and press 02 at the prompt and nothing happens. The next day she tries again and all of a sudden she can get her ip address. But it's different from the one I wrote down. I change her port forwarding to use this new ip address and again we have audio problems. She agains confirms her ip address and again the ip address changes by one number like this. First time she checked her address it was 192.168.000.101 Next time she checked it is now 192.168.000.102 Why is the address changing? How can I have it so the address doesn't change so I can configure her router. Also, is there a way to assign my own ip address to her adapter. I looked in the manual but didn't see how to do this. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Whitehoot, How did you assign an IP for your 286? I haven't seen how to do this. As for the codec I'm using, I start with iLBC. I've found that using this codec first gives me great quality as long as my adapter is in the dmz of my router.

I use the linksys 4 port wireless G router ....i have 4 phones on my network ..and have programed eachone seperate of the network ..put the comeputer you will be using and the ata alone on the router ... then powercyle the router ..in some cases reset the router to default settings ...i have a seperate router just for this... after you power the router your PC should defaualt to 192.168.1.101 and the ata will be .102 ...hehe ip found :P now although there are IP sniffer programs out there i dont have any those .... i think this would allow you to not have to disconnect ALL devices from the router but dont quote me on that. i DMZ the telephone also casue i have hardly any working knowlage of port forwarding stuff and that DMZ setting is a god send ..however remeber to set a static IP so in case of loss of power the IP wont cange. hope this helps the i use " gramdstream 286 , 386 ATA's and find the IP stuff on the advace config page after you are in the HTTP:// page of the ATA.
