The HT-488 disconnects from the SIP server (specifically, the FWD server) configured for the FXS port about twice a day. This is indicated by a flashing red light on the HT-488 and no dial tone when someone picks up a phone connected to the FXS port. The only apparent way to remedy this is to reset the unit (unplug the power and plug it back in). This method of resetting the unit always seems to get it connected again.

Because of this issue, I changed the Register Expiration for the FXS Port from 60 minutes to 1 minutes, which seems to have worked for some people on this forum (or possibly another forum; I can't quite remember). This does not appear to have had any affect on the situation; the unit still needs resetting about twice a day.

This particular issue seems kind of odd to me because I had a BT-102 phone connected at the same location and it never had a similar disconnection problem.

Any ideas on how I can get the HT-488 to stop randomly disconnecting from the SIP server?

For anyone else having this problem:

I've been in touch with Grandstream technical support and they've suggested that I upgrade the firmware to soon-to-be-released v1.0.3.x. As you can see at http://www.grandstream.com/y-firmware.htm, the latest firmware version for the HT-488 is 1.0.2.16, which is what I have. According to a message I received from Grandstream technical support today, the new firmware "should be available in a few weeks or sooner". Hopefully that will fix it. I'll try to remember to post what happens when I try the new firmware version.

FYI, Grandstream has released v1.0.3.18 of their firmware. I just noticed it this afternoon. I will be trying it out in the next few days and will post back with my results.

Thanks for the link to the beta firmware. I would have tried the beta firmware, but I'm a bit apprehensive about running beta stuff, especially on a device that needs to be operational the majority of the time.
