| When I'm talking with someone over VoIP using a phone connected to the FXS port on the HT-488 and there is an incoming call on the FXO port, the HT-488 does not notify the user of the FXS port that there is an incoming call (ie. by way of call waiting blips). Is the HT-488 designed to do this? If not, can I get it to give callers to the FXO port a busy signal when the FXS is in use for a VoIP call? I'd rather not have callers to the FXO port get to the VoIP dial tone (I have an answering machine setup on the FXS port that will answer after 4 rings (which is before the HT-488 picks up with the VoIP dial tone) but it becomes ineffective when the FXS is in use for a VoIP call because the HT-488 obviously can't pass on rings to the FXS port when it's in use for a VoIP call). I'd sort of like to keep my answering machine on the FXS port instead of having it on the same line as the FXO port of the HT-488 because then the answering machine can answer calls made to the SIP account associated with the FXS port. Any ideas? |

| Voip and PSTN are independent as far as I can tell. You can use both at the same time. Call the PSTN number on voip and answer it. Accept a call on PSTN and transfer it to voip or vice versa. I would say that voip is very much dominant which is OK with us as we very rarely make PSTN calls. Quote:

| The solution (albeit a non-optimal one) was to put the answering machine on the PSTN line in parallel with the HT-488 so even if someone is in a VoIP call on the HT-488, the answering machine will still pickup on the regular phone line. This does, however, prevent the answering machine from answering any VoIP calls, regardless of whether the phone line is in use. It is a workaround that I'm willing to live with, though. In my particular situation, the PSTN line is the main line that is used. We seldom use the VoIP line; it's just used for calling other people that have FWD (the service the HT-488 is connected to). It's unfortunate the HT-488 doesn't work like I want it to, but I'll make due with its limitations. Thanks for pointing out the SPA3000, PhoneBoy; I'll look into that more. |
