Hi, I just got my GXP 2000 and much to my surprises I got it all working. Brilliant! Now I have to see how I crack the Phonebook problem. I have downloaded and studied the Grandstream PDF file on this subject but somehow didn't manage to get it working. I copied the example in the file to the simple word processor Notepad and replaced the names and phone numbers. Saved it as a text file and changed the file name to gs_phonebook.xml. It doesn't download to the phone what ever I do. Now, would some of you be so kind as to give my an example of the path I should enter? Or based on the above am I doing something else completely wrong. I am not a Network expert but very willing to learn. My Phonebook file is on one of my PC's in the network. In fact on the one I am accessing the GXP 2000 from. Since all you of seemed to have access to an IP phone perhaps somebody is willing to talk me through it. It should not cost you a dime, cent or penny. (I am in Europe GST +2 hours) Any help is much appreciated. Kind regards, John

Hello, Further to the requests I received I am more than happy to share this tiny bit of knowledge I acquired over the last couple days. Please note, I am not an expert in this field but just a simple user with a habit to make the most of the stuff he buys. Step 1 Go to Grandstream Networks Customer Services and look for the GXP-2000 Enterprise IP Phone and download the PDF file Phone Book download via XML Guide. On page 3 you will find an example of an XML file. Step 2 Copy/paste the example into a simple Word processor like Notepad. Just leave everything else as it is. This is just a test to get it working. Your details can be entered at a later stage. Make sure you just copy/paste. Do not remove the first empty line. Save the file as gs_phonebook.txt The name should be exactly as shown because your phone is programmed to look for this file. Select the file via Windows Explorer and change the extension to .xml OK, as far as the file is concerned you are all set. It might be a good idea to make a special folder for it on your network/drive. According to the guys at the Grandstream very helpful helpdesk the best you could do is decide to use the TFTP protocol to transfer the file from your Network to the Phone. For this purpose you will need a TFTP server on your system. Go to SolarWinds - Downloads and look for FREE Tools downloads and download the FREE TFTP server. You will have to fill out a form in order to be able to get the download. Step 3 Install Solar Winds TFTP server on your system. Make sure you make the folder you saved gs_phonebook.xml to the root directory. This server can only exchange files to/from its root. Once you have done that you will see the file in the window in the server. Here you can check whether the extension is what it should be. If not change it now. Step 4 Open the Web interface of the phone. Go to the ADVANCED SETTINGS section Look for Phonebook download XML and change the setting to YES, TFTP Phonebook XML server path: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\e:\Phonebook folder This path consists of the IP address of the machine your server and file are located on. e: is referring to the drive and enter the folder you stored the file in. Please note, slashes BACKWARDS. Click Update and Reboot the Phone. Step 5 On Reboot the file is downloaded to your Phone. If not, go to the Phone menu – Phone Book and select Download Phonebook. The Phone book should be downloaded to the Phone. Please make sure your firewall settings allow the Phone to enter your Network. If this is working you will have to find a way to get your information into the XML format. Personally I am working on way to do this with Access. I get to my Outlook information through Access and turn it into a rapport to be saved as text and changed to .xml Perhaps some experts here have a better way of doing it, I would be much obliged to learn from them. I was able to this with the help of Arthur Chen and John Huang of the Grandstream technical support team. They responded to my email requests within 24 hours. I was impressed. If any one feels he/she can add or improve on the above please feel free to do so. I am sure it will be to the benefit of many member of this forum. Kind regards, jvdv Last edited by jvdv : January 23rd, 2007 at 08:24 AM.

Job job mate! I bought a Budge Tone 101 that does not have this feature, but I am sure this info will come in handy one day. Also, I am sure there are many silent lurkers out there who are glad you figured it out. -Beach
