During a call my Budgetone 102 froze: no voice, buttons stopped working, couldn't hang up. I disconnected the power from the phone and then reconnected, but now the phone is completely dead, apart from the screen backlight. Buttons do not work, phone does not connect to the network, screen is empty, only the backlight is on and the front LED flashes once about every 4 seconds. Is there a way to get this phone working? Any advice will be appreciated.

It depend, you need use wireshark or ethereal to read packets on LAN port and check if it send asny packet. Depend what this phone is doing there is a chance that you can upgrade it and recover. It's hard to say if this was firmware crash or electronics crash.

I connected my PC to one of my router's LAN ports and started Wireshark; I connected the IP phone to another of these ports (initially with the phone AC adapter disconnected). When I plugged in the phone -with Wireshark already running on the PC- the router broadcasted an ARP protocol query: 3 0.008244 Belkin_44:f1:2c Broadcast ARP Who has 192.168.2.4? Tell 192.168.2.1 I assume the router attempts to assign this IP to the phone, but there is no answer coming back to the router. Phone screen remains blank. I can't get the phone to do anything. Can I reset it to factory state even if the screen is not displaying anything (i.e. if I can't follow the procedure in the manual)??

If phone is working than yes. Just follow setting: Menu -> UP -> mac adress -> menu I Think that should work for reset. BTW router port are switch, so you d not ecive packets that way. Try direct LAN -PC with crossed cable.

Thanks Marceli. I was reading some packets from the phone. The phone was searching for the firmware server, but could not connect to it. I downloaded the files from the Grandstream website and tried to update the phone's firmware using files stored on the PC, to which it was connected through a cross cable to the phone's LAN port - I set-up the PC with the address of the server that the phone was searching for (168.75.215.188) otherwise it would not connect to anything. For this attempt both PC and phone were only connected to each other, no network otherwise. The phone downloaded one complete file (boot.bin) from my PC. It apparently sent all of the 32 blocks without error, but now the phone is still not working and is sending no more packets. I am at a miss as to what happened. i thought I was going the right way... any ideas? Sorry for the long wait, but it took me a while to get things going here.

The reset didn't work. I followed the reset sequence but the phone had and kept a MAC address different to that on the label on the bottom. I guess the firmware got messed up when it started failing and probably the stored MAC address did as well.
