Hi all, I'm very new to networking and VoIP and have a problem that I'm sure is quite simple but it's got me foxed. I'm trying to log in to a gwx4008 ata/router but can't and this is what I've tried. Connecting GWX LAN to modem router - pc disconnects from internet and tries to connect to the GWX and gives limited or no access mesage and LAN tray icon has yellow triangle. Connect GWX WAN to router - nothing appears to happen and cannot find GWX using ipconfig /all Connect PC LAN to GWX LAN - this gives limited or no access mesage and LAN tray icon has yellow triangle. Connect PC LAN to GWX WAN - same as above.

Thanks for the reply Marceli, however, the manual is wrong. I would normally access the grandstream with my laptop using a D-link usb/ethernet adapter with no problem (my laptop doesn't have an ethernet connection). The only issue was, I couldn't connect to the internet using my wi-fi card at the same time. Using my desktop (also with wi-fi connection), I keep internet access but cannot access the grandstream. If I disable the wi-fi, I still cannot access the grandstream following the manual. The grandstream works fine.

4008 give your PC addres from DHCP server on lan port ? If is 192.168.2.100 or 192.168.2.2 ? If yes you should be able to connect to GXW on IP 192.168.2.1 As for laptop, this behavior is normal. Wi-Fi is shutdown, when you plug RJ-45 in port.

Its quite possible that you can't access the web interface of the device, is because its WAN port access is disabled by default. In order to enable it, plug a phone (NOT phone line) into one of the FXS ports Press *** and follow prompts, until you hear "WAN port access" -- Press "9" to toggle the setting. After that, you should be able to access the Web UI.

Marceli - Cannot access 4008 to see what address it shows. This is what the problem is. My internet router is 192.168.2.1. Nothing else tracable on my system even when using Network Magic. vshafir - The web ui doesn't need activating. The problem is I can't access the 4008 from my desktop machine. I've even re-set the 4008 and still cannot find it using the desktop. I also have a GS HT386 that I can access using either machine without problem.

From what I can see so far, everyone has given you the correct info. Plug a standard everyday single line telephone into one of the FXS ports on the rear of the unit. Using the "UNDERSTANDING GXW VOICE PROMPTS" from the book. Plug the WAN port of the 4008 into your Router like any other computer would be plugged in. Wait about 30 seconds. Go off hook. Get dial tone??? No, then unit is defective. Return for exchange. Yes, then dial ***02 on the phone and you should here the IP Address of the 4008 unit that it was given by your router. If it says 0.0.0.0 then it may be in Static Mode. Then look at the manual and use the Dial Options to switch it to Dynamic. Try the ***02 method again ad listen for an IP Address. If you DO get an IP Address you still NEED to ACTIVATE the Web Browser in the unit by using Dial Option 12 then 9 to toggle it to ENABLE then #99 to Reset it and finally 9 to reboot it. It is a lot of little steps and who knows why Grandstream made it this way. So now after it re-boots try the following: You said:"Connect GWX WAN to router - nothing appears to happen and cannot find GWX using ipconfig /all" This is the correct FINAL physical connection method after you determin th IP Address. ipconfig/all will only tell you the IP Assignments of the computer you type it on, it will not tell you every device connected to your network. So go to your address bar and type the IP Address you received using the ***02 method. You should see the Web Browser Page to gain access to the unit. Let us all know if this helps or if you need any additional more detailed info. Billx

| Hi Billx, Thanks for your in depth response from the manual. I've found the following to be the easiest way in.
