Default Voicemail system

Hello,

This is not really a VOIP question. It is about voicemail system in general

We already have an old PBX system setup with extenstions for people. But, recently the DOS based voicemail system computer crashed and we have been having hard time getting it up.

Can we use windows 2000/xp/ linux system to pickup calls...and setup voicemail system for all the extensions???? I did a google search but did not find much useful information. If you can plz list or point me to latest and cheapest solution.

Can trixbox be used just for voicemail? Or can be buy some software & hardware to pickup voicemails?

Eagerly waiting for replies
Thanks

According to the information you provided, the answer is "yes".

If you would care to give some details of your environment you could get a more satisfactory response. What kind of PABX is it? What voicemail system just quit on you? How is that voicemail system integrated with your PABX now? How many talk paths connect your PABX to your voicemail system?

Eagerly waiting for enough details to give a good response.

Default Iwatsu ADIX system

The PBX system (old..but still working) that we have setup is Iwatsu ADIX Omega-Phone. It has switching/routing hardware and phones. We have around 10 different internal extensions on the same phone#. The voicemail computer with DOS-based system died and we had it reinstalled, but cannot get it to work (shitty DOS-based software that costed few $1000's). What we need is a cheap independent Windows/ Linux based solution for voicemail and call routing capabilities. Voicemail is the priority here.

Thanks and have a great day

Default RE: Iwatsu ADIX system

So, how is the voice mail system integrated with the Iwatsu? By analog interface? By Iwatsu proprietary interface? How many talk paths are there (How many people can Voice Mail be dealing with simultaneously when it works?)?

Voicemail system is getting 2 phone lines directly coming from the PBX system. Both lines have dial tone, so I guess they are analog. There is a card in the back of DOS based computer that is taking these 2 lines. On the computer there is also an adapter on printer port which is used as the key for the voicemail software to work (some propietary hardware for the software to work I guess)

Simuntaneously, max 10 people will be using the voicemail. But we will have around 20 voicemail boxes

Really appreciate you helping me. I am kind of new into this and my company want me to see if I can fix or find a cheap replacement for voicemail. thank you very much

If you only have 2 phone lines connecting the PABX to the Voice Mail, how can you have more than 2 simultaneous accesses?

It is still not clear how signalling is passed between the two systems. To your knowledge, how does the PABX tell the Voice Mail system which mailbox a particular call is destined for? Once a message is collected, how does the Voice Mail system notify the PABX extension user that a message is waiting?
