I should feel blessed that I have 768k/768k SDSL for $40/month in Virginia and 8M/1M ADSL for $25/month in Japan. I just got a solicitation from the phone company today to upgrade my 8M ADSL to 100MB/100MB FTTH service for only $55/month. They're waiving the $120 installation fee if I order before the end of the year. (Of course, I would have to sink more than that $120 into a higher speed router and replacing my 802.11b with 802.11g equipment.) Now I have to consider just what I would do with that bandwidth if I took the offer.

I'm not sure how strict they are in Japan about copyright laws, but I could imagine it would be very easy to resell all your extra bandwidth to "less fortunate" users in the form of VPN/FTP/shell/webhosting accounts.

If I had all this bandwidth I'd probably have to buy a new 250GB harddrive every 3-4 weeks, instead of every 3-4 months currently.

Question remains though, how many "gigs" of transfer will they allow you before you are considered "an abuser". I doubt they'll let you pump 500GB of data a month (to the US) by running a really popular "photo library" website, for example. Then again, they may have no problem with it.

Default ATT Callvantage "Unlimited" up to a point!

Text from the AT&T VOIP Callvantage $29.95/month unlimited local & long distance plan suscriber agreement: If you dont look for it, you would never know..

See the little superscript "1" after the H in month..

c. Prohibited Uses of Service

You are expressly prohibited from reselling or transferring the Service or AT&T Equipment to any other person for any purpose, without express written permission from AT&T in advance. In addition, you are expressly prohibited from using the Service for auto-dialing, continuous or extensive call forwarding, telemarketing, fax broadcasting or fax blasting, or for uses that result in excessive usage inconsistent with normal residential or home office usage patterns. If AT&T determines, in its sole discretion, that you are reselling or transferring the Service or that your Service is being used for any of the aforementioned activities, AT&T reserves the right, without advance notice, to immediately terminate or modify the Service, or to change your calling plan to a different offer on a prospective basis, and in addition, to assess additional charges for each month in which excessive usage occurred. If you subscribe to a calling plan which included unlimited calling of any type, unless otherwise specified by your specific plan in marketing materials associated therewith, any usage in excess of 5,000 aggregate minutes per month, taking into account all types of calling in your plan which are provided on an unlimited basis, shall be presumed to be not consistent with these restrictions and shall be subject to the conditions above.

I guess it depends on the defiinition of the word "Unlimited"...
sounds familier...."IS"...

President Clinton:

"It depends upon what the meaning of the word 'is' is. If 'is' means 'is and never has been' that's one thing - if it means 'there is none', that was a completely true statement," he said.

Unlimited is not what it seems LOL
