Hi, I am looking for a VoIP Plan to save on my phone bills. I want to keep in touch with my gf who is in a province (Barangay Burabod, Biliran, Philippines). I have researched about Pinoy Calls, Mabuhay calls. But what makes it hard is that it is a very small province with no internet facilties and only Smart Cell has coverage there. So ideal choice would be she calls me from her Smart cell on my US number for a flat rate or I call her on her Smart cell for a flat rate. I would really appreciate all ideas on this. Direct calls are making big holes in my pocket!

If 100 free minutes per month is enough, you both can register with Jaxtr (see www.jaxtr.com). It is good for any phone (landline or mobile) anywhere in the world. If one of you is in one of the supported countries (there are about 40 countries but the Philippines is not), the one in the supported country can call the Philippines for free. The nice thing about Jaxtr is that there is no need for broadband connection on either side. If you are in the USA and your gf needs to call you, you can install a DialMate CM1003 (see www.woodtel.com) in a Jaxtr-registered landline (VoIP or PSTN) with 3-way/transfer calling in the USA and have her do a call back to her cell phone and then call you for free.

Ok my friends, I'm new here, but do I have a GREAT way for you to save ALOT of money to call ANYWHERE in the world for practically nothing!!! Check this out!!...I recently found this website called ( MAGICJACK.COM) this is soo cool....Its a devise that hooks up to your comp. it cost $40 USD & the service there after is only $20 USD a year, first year is free!!! This devise allows you to make all the calls you want within the United States & Canada for free & talk as long as you want, but wait, there is more to this for you who want to make international calls. Check this out!! This is so cool, what I have done is purchased 2 of these Magicjacks & I kept one for myself & the other one I have sent off to the philippines, now remember, before you send this off to your overseas destination, you must first register it with YOUR area code. Once the recipient receives it, then he/she installs it through the USB port of their comp. & hook up a regular landline phone & then they too can call you for FREE & you call them for FREE!!! This gets even better, you can have (If you live in the U.S.) your calls forwarded to your cell phone as well, unfortunately the recipient in the other country cannot forward their calls to their cell phones. It can be done only if you purchase international minutes. How this works is, the devise has a USB on one end & a regular phone jack connection on the other end, you just plug in a regular landline, can be a cordless too & from there you call the assigned number that magicjack gives you. Also, for the person in the other country to receive your call, their comp must be on...As for you, if you are having your number forwarded to your cell phone, then your comp. can be off & your cell phone will still receive the call.

To answer other questions about calling the Philippines that have no internet connection try this web site ( CallPinoy.com ) It's a good alternative, plus you can get a plan to where they send the person in the Philippines a cell phone that they too will have a 1000 minutes per month to call you with & you can call them unlimited!! The package is $80 USD per month, but they do have other pakages that are cheaper with one way calling.

Heya everyone, On this subject of untimed calls to the Philippines. I am using a VoIP provider called GoTalk (www.gotalk.com.au) . They offer untimed calls to the Philippines for 20c per call. I signed up with them and the wife loves it. You cannot call untimed on mobile phones tho, just landlines. Call quality is good too. Cheers John

the company which was offering unlimited calling to the Philippines using SUN celular was Telepinas (www.telepinas.com). An internet connection is NOT required and NO other VoIP equipment is required either. telepinas maps a local SUN or bayantel number to a US/Canada number. they can also map a local US/Canada number to a SUN or metro manila land line. thier 2-way unlimited package starts at $45.95/month.

I have heard of Sun from the Philippines, but with this service "Magicjack" it only cost $20 for the year, the first year is free. you can call them as often as you like & they can call you...There is NO EXTRA CHARGES & NO CHARGES PER MONTH...Talk as much as you want, its like calling locally because with the "Magicjack" you send to them, you program it with YOUR USA or CANADA area code & the "Magicjack" will issue a number to you that has YOUR area code....That way when the person in the Philippines receives it, all they have to do is plug it in to their usb port on there comp, let it load up & then they can call you & you can call them & talk as long as you wish.....This also works for those who wish to keep in contact with people from any other country, just as long as they have an internet connect......Anybody from the USA or Canada that sends a "Magicjack" to anybody in the world, does not need a "Magicjack" themselves, you can call them from your cell phone or your land line because you programmed the "Magicjack with YOUR area code.
