| Greetings All, I have been trying to come up with a solution to my VoIP need and I think that I am over complicating things, now that I have been working on it so long. So I am asking for any and all ideas, solutions and designs to meet my need - So thanks in advance for your input. I live in the US and have a SIPURA 200 connected to my household phone wiring and to the Internet via a Linksys wrv2000 router. I am using BroadVoice as my provider. This works fine and has for over a year. The solution need lies in that I have a cottage in Canada where I have setup wireless connectivity via Sympatico DSL and a Linksys wrtg54g router. FYI - The router is not in my cottage so direct CAT5 is not an option. My cellphone usage bill is killing me when I am working from the cottage. T-Mobile Roaming, Blackberry ... to the tune of about $300 a month. I would like to be able to utilize VoIP and my existing Broadvoice number (or the secondary number) at the cottage some how, some way, to make and receive calls. Some methods that I looked into: A softphone on my laptop Hardphone wireless handset VPN to home Utilize and extend the Secondary SIP line ... Like I said I think that I am making this harder then need be, so your input is greatly appreciated. Regards, Brian |

| Linksys makes a wireless (wifi) adapter that is specifically designed to attach a PAP2T or SPA3102 for a VoIP phone at your remote location that you should be able to use to access the dsl router. I've used it, it works fine. Another alternative is to use a wifi repeater and attach the PAP2 or SPA directly to the repeater. There may be a better way to work directly with your Broadvoice account, but for simplicity I would get another VoIP account with some dial in number and then at the broadvoice account level forward the incoming calls to your new number. I would get the new account with someone who would allow you to set the caller id number to your Broadvoice incoming DID number. I believe both les.net and callwithus.com will allow you to do that and I'm sure there may be others to choose from. I would try several and pick the one that gives you the best phone quality at your distant location. |
