Default pstn bridging to voip

I want to get rid of my landline, but, because of where I live, if I want a local number, or want to port the landline number, I have to use a sip provider that supplies a locked ata device.

I would like to be able to call my local incoming voip number from a cell phone or public phone, enter a pin number, and get the dial tone of my second, outgoing, voip line; but I can't use the locked device to do the bridging.

At least it can't be done by itself. But if I had something like an fx-200 in addition to the locked device, would it be possible then to do the bridging?

Or, if you had an SPA3000 you could plug the locked device into the PSTN Line of the SPA and program the PSTN Line with your local number VoIP service.

So, wasn't it you who was asking what use there is for VoIP-to-PSTN functionality in the SPA3000?

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad it's possible. If, by the time I decide to get rid of the landline, there's no byod plan for Canada that also provides a local number, or ports the existing landline number, I may shell out for the SPA3000 and do what you describe.

I wonder if vonage, or anybody, would consider it worth their while to provide a 2-account setup with a locked device, where the device is programmed to do the PSTN to VOIP bridging? Include 5 pin numbers; ask for the pin number if there's no pickup after 5 rings. Something like that. Personally, I might go for it.

From their point of view, it would be a nice selling point, especially for users of cell phones who need to do long distance calling.

It was, though not with regard to the SPA3000 in particular; but my question here wasn't contradicting that (at least I don't think it was; I may be having a terminology problem, or mental roadmap problem, since I have only constructed these setups in my imagination).

I wouldn't expect Vonage (for example) to support your proposition because it could put them in the awkward position of facilitating your resale or redistribution of their services to others. No matter what they put in the User Agreement, if they provide such a solution it can be argued that they condone such use. Their User Agreement is pretty clear that the locked service is to be used from a fixed location and only by the immediate family members and personal visitors of the subscriber.
