Default Pinging STUN servers, "Port Restricted Cone NAT"

Does a STUN server have to respond to ping requests? For example, pinging servers “stun.voipdiscount.com” and “stun.softjoys.com” does NOT return any reply, while pinging “stun.sipnet.ru” does.

BTW, I tried all three STUN servers mentioned above with softphone “SJ-phone” connected to the Internet via my own wi-fi (via WRT54G router). With servers “stun.voipdiscount.com” and “stun.sipnet.ru” I get a message, something like "Blocked NAT". With server “stun.softjoys.com” I get a message "Port Restricted Cone NAT". Calls do go through with the latter. And, if I am not mistaken, even with the former.

Default RE: Pinging STUN servers, "Port Restricted Cone NAT&q

A STUN server does not have to respond to ping requests. Ping uses ICMP and many locations block some or all of the ICMP traffic.
