| OK.. I know this is quite an old VoIP box but there are tones being sold on Ebay now from Hong Kong. I bought mine originally from Comet store in the UK and it has been running sweet for a couple of years now. Mine gets warm at best (about hand temperature). Anyway...... Mate bought one fom HK (hong kong) recently and afater about an hour it was so hot you wouldnt wanna hold it for long. After three days of of being used, it ended it melting the case and blowing some caps. He sent it back and got a replacment. (dodgy box we thought) The next one has come through and i began to set this one up for him for the second time. Again after an hour it was super hot. I knew what kinda temperature they should be becasue of my one from Comet I thought that the PSU that had come with it was over voltage but after testing it the meter came back with 5v... so that was OK. Im not gona babble on anymore but i will conclude by saying i finally did sort it out and get it back to "normal" temperature quite easily hence why im making this post as i couldnt find any answers to this problem on the net what so ever. The basic problem is the chip within getting very very hot. This is actually due to poor ventelation. You can check this yourself simply by removing the three case screws and leaving the top of the case off. The chip will get at best warm to the touch. On this pap2 a heat sink was added to the top of the IC which helped but it still got to hot in my opinion. Then ( and this is was sorted it for me) i cut all the internal plastic staggerd case vents in all four corners and voila! now warm to the touch and looks no different externally. I hope this helps if your pap2 is over heating, as i believe that this not only will only lengthen the life of the pap2 but maybe actaully be less of a fire risk.. I was going to upload some pictures of the pap2 but was feeling to lazy. |
