Default FWD.. the best things in life are free.. right? :)

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to talk about FWD. Lately I've been hooked on it. It's just fun to use and amazing that something so simple and free can work so great. This is a provider forum and it is one heck of a provider. Pretty soon Jeff will unveil free voicemail and that will be great. Just as soon as I figure out how to unlock my Vonage ATA-186 I'll set it up with FWD. I also use Packet8. What can I say? I'm a technology junkie. :D

Welcome Scott,

I'm also a fan of FWD. Jeff Pulver has been stopping by Voxilla with some frequency of late.

Once you do get your ATA unlocked, it would be great for you to post here so that others can learn.

It's a pleasure to have you on Voxilla.

I just started using fwd a week ago, and it rocks. You really need a headset and microphone to use it with the software that comes fwd-ready. But its great if you have friends in other countries that use fwd too. I've been talking to a friend whose stationed in Korea every night. The calls are perfecty clear. What would make fwd really great is if I could use my P8 phone to make calls to fwd members, and they could call me on my P8 line.

Default Regular phone to FWD..

zman,

You can use a regular phone to call FWD numbers, and others can use a regular phone to reach you on FWD as well. Although there is no way I know of to just call a regular phone from FWD. You're in FL, my wife's friends call a local Jacksonville number and put in our FWD number and it works flawlessly. Check out this list of local numbers in these states, including FL: http://www.libretel.com/access.html There are lots of uses for this, I used it one night with a local MA number to cal FWD #55555 while working a very boring overnight job. I was on my cell phone talking to people from Sweden, Spain, and New Zealand for free. :)

Scott,

That is really cool. It means you can use any regular phone to call anywhere in the world for free. And with a vonage account, you can use any number on the list and its free. When any people can use FWD to call a rgular phone number, that will be awsome.

Thank you for the post.

I think what will happen is you can choose a PSTN number where, and when you need it and still use a free service like FWD.

You might use FWD for most calls, then when you need to make an oldschool call, you'll hit a code using FWD your call will be put on the phone network.

This type stuff is possible now, but because of the cost of PSTN trunking, you dont see it much. Once that cost comes down more and more cool stuff like this will happen.

Jeff might not be happy about it though.
