Default Direct IP Dialling with Sipura and port forwarding

I would like to to set up direct IP dialing (using Sipura 3000 or
Sipura 2100). To be more specific, lets say, we would like to set up a point-to-point connection as follows.
At each point we have a router with a public dynamic address (say, via a DSL modem) and a Sipura behind the router. The routers are on different networks (in different parts of the Globe).

I would like to clarify a couple of things.

1) I have found a nice tutorial according to which it appears to be not necessary to forward
the router's UDP port 5060 even though the Sipura is behind the router. Am I getting it right?

2) As I understand, one can achieve direct IP-dialing without
involving any SIP Broker Alias. That is any two Sipuras configured
according to the steps 1--3 of your Tutorial can direct IP-dial each
other something like this <123:user@IP-adr:5060> Am I correct?

No, the ata's sip signalling port generally needs to be forwarded in the router (or the device needs to be in the router's DMZ) because an incoming call is not solicited and there is no proxy that is maintaining registration. If you experience problems hearing the audio after a call starts you may also need to forward the rtp ports. The rtp ports generally aren't a problem because each side of the call starts sending the rtp stream after receiving the other side's port number.

I didn't write the Tutorial, but I believe it was well done. Yes, you can do it that way. Usually you would put an S0 outside of the < > to dial immediately. If you have other elements in your dial plan, make sure they are all unique.

Before you start, make sure you are familiar with the debug trace facility so that you can troubleshoot any problems. I would also become proficient in accessing any of the sites remotely.

I have forwarded the ports and it works ok.

What I have noticed however is that I can always receive calls at my
DSL dynamic public IP address, but if instead I use my domain name via
DynDNS.org with my router WRT54, then calls do not always go through.

Perhaps it takes some time for my DSL dynamic public IP address to
propagate after it changes.

I did register my sip uri with Sipbroker and get Sipbroker alias,
but it does not eliminate the problem.

Appears to be DNS issues: update/propogation delay
