Default Connection quality problem

Hello,

I am currently in Israel and using Vonage to make phone calls to the US. I am using the basic setup ADL modem + Vonage Motorola V4224 box + Plantronics T10 phone with headset. I have 4 boxes set up like this, and I am encountering connection clarity issues even though each of them is going through a separate 2.5 Mb DSL line. Ideally, of course, I want the phone to sound like US land line to US land line, but thats not the case. The person on the other end sometimes sounds distant or can't hear me properly.

I tried everything I knew how to do, from speaking to vonage to switching the phones to contacting my local provider. No improvement.

I have recently read about Sipura SPA 3000 and such. I am not a VoIP expert and thus didn't understand much about it. I would appreciete any help / suggestions on how I can improve the call reception quality using whatever devices.

Thank You!

You may have to try a different VoIP service provider (VSP). If you want to have a good choice of VSP's it's best to have your own unlocked telephone adapter. Call quality tends to be better if the VSP's proxy is closer to you. I don't know which VSP has a proxy close to you. Betamax companies, such as VoipDiscount, have proxies in Europe which may be closer to you. No matter what, you will have noticeable latency when calling between Israel and USA because of the distance.

I **think** Vonage have a UK based proxy, which will be substantially closer to Israel c.t a US based one, talk to Vonage support and see if they can set your a/c to point to the UK proxy.

I don't really see that being the problem though, I used to be in Cairo, Egypt until just over a year ago. Initially used Broadvoice until their meltdown and despite BV being US based, never had an issue with sound quality. I then switched to a UK service provider, www.voiptalk.org and used them w/o issue for quite a bit as well.

To eliminate ISP issues, sign up with a pay as you go provider (like VoipTalk.org), configure them on an ATA (if you have an unlocked device, or get one, SPA1001s are quite cheap and work wonderfully), or a softphone like X-Ten, and make a few calls and see if they're any better.

If even with a different provider gives u the same sound quality problems, then the issue could be your ISP, or congestion in your internal network (someone using torrent??)....
