Can't make telephone to computer calls.

Linksys PAP2 can't make telephone to computer calls.


I have a couple of friends living overseas who call me on my Voipcheap telephone when my computer is not switched on. It been working okay for a year or more.
It's stopped working now, they can't call me, and I can't call them when utilising telephone to computer/computer to telephone calls.

If they call me, or I call them, using our computers, it works perfectly. So it must have something to do with the Linksys PAP2 setup. What is strange is that I can use Voipcheap to call normal landline numbers and when I go into the Linksys setup (without the Voipcheap programme running on my computer) it shows, Registration State:Online. But they on the other hand get the message that I am not online. When I tried to call them I just got an unobtainable tone.

Has Voipcheap stopped offering this service does anyone know?

Now, I don't know if this just coincidence or not and it has all happened since I changed over to AOL and started using their Router .

Any help here would be most appreciated.

It sounds as if you are having NAT transversal problems with your new router. That is a common problem.

The usual fix is to set NAT Mapping Enable and NAT Keep Alive Enable on the Line tab. If that doesn't fix the problem then on the sip tab keep those settings and try:
Substitute VIA Addr:YES
Send Resp To Src Port:YES
STUN Enable: YES
STUN Server: stun.voipcheap.com (or any other STUN server. It is a standardized function.)

I have done all of what you have suggested and it's a little bit better, my friends can now see me on their computers as STATUS: ONLINE WITH SIP. They couldn't see me as being online before.

When they try to ring me it doesn't ring my telephone here. They get the following message:

SORRY LOCAL NETWORK PROBLEM ENDED THIS CALL.

Perhaps you know of something else I could try.

Could be a codec setting on the ATA. Try G711u or G729a and Use Pref Codec Only NO.

If that doesn't work, then I would use the IVR to reset the ata to factory default settings to reset any obscure settings and then reenter your configuration settings.

I tried your suggestions and again without success, which led me to believe it's nothing to do with the pap2 but perhaps the AOL router which is a Thompson st 585v 6sl locked to AOL.
I reconnected my old router and it worked straight away. I now can get calls from my friend's computers to my sip phone.

I have another little problem which you might be able to help with.
I don't know why, but I've never been able to phone them using their usernames from my sip phone. I can call them from my computer though.

I have entered their user names separately in speed dial positions 2 and 3, dial on my sip phone 2# or
3# but it doesn't work all I get is a beep, beep unobtainable sound. Any ideas?

If your are trying to call with a sip uri you need to set Enable IP Dialing: Yes on the Line tab.

Sorry,you must be getting fed up with me by now.

I have set enable IP dialling to yes.

In Speed dial position 2 I have put in his username like this: sip:joeblogs@voipcheap.co.uk

When I speed dial him so, 2#, nothing happens at all, I just get silence.


Well, at least the beep, beep has gone, so that is something I suppose.


I must be doing something wrong but I don't know what.

I would try:
joe@sip.voipcheap.co.uk

With a sip uri you use the proxy address. I don't know if the "sip:" works, but I suspect not on the PAP2. Some softphones use "sip:"
