Default Vmail Services

Anyone know of any good 'open' vmail services out there for SIP? FWD had one but it is down now undergoing reconstruction.

I thought Asterisk provides this functionality?

But do you have to have a card with a DSP, or can it do it without any special hardware? Also, looking more for a service than a DIY.

A general-purpose computer can be used, no special DSP required. The only "extra hardware" you might need would be special modems that can be used to hook up a standard phone.
