Hello Forum makers,

it would be nice to have the possibility to subscribe to particular threads of personal interest.

This seems to be easily possible under phpBB2, I'm used to that from another great forum on voip ( in german: http://www.ip-phone-forum.de ) which also uses this board.

When a post is added to a thread I subscribed, I get a notification by mail.

Chris

Isn't that what the "notify me when a reply is posted" checkbox does?

Doesn't show up on my pages - does it need to be configured?

Maybe I'm really stupid ... can't see it, sorry

It shows up for me to the left of the quick-reply box at the bottom of the thread.

I have seen this but to my understanding, this only applies to threads to which you post yourself.

I attach a screenshot from the other forum, where you can see in the right bottom corner, the text: bei antworten zu diesem thema benachrichtigen" i.e. notify me on replies to this post.

This line only shows to logged-in users.

Besides, there is another nice function on that board which I use a lot, also only for logged-in users: "Letzte Themen" i.e. latest threads. It opens a page with all the latest threads (time is adjuatable), with their categories. Great tool when a lot is posted.

Actually, the "Notify me when a reply is posted" icon (the one with the clock face) is available only to registered users (as we have no email address through which to inform non-registered users). It applies to both threads in which you have posted and those you have not posted in. Usually though, if you leave the "Notify me whan a reply is posted" checkbox at it's default ON state when you do post, you are automatically informed via email of threads you have participated in that have received a reply.

There is similar functionality on the Voxilla forum. On the main forum page, if you are logged in, there's a link to "View posts since last visit" that gives you a list of all new posts since you last stopped by.
