Default OT - Ending (Analog) Phone Call

Is there a button on a regular analog telephone that will end a call (# or *)? I've noticed a couple of times, an hour after ending a phone-call, that the timer on the phone display is still in counting-mode! When it happens again, I need to dial my home phone with my cell-phone to see if I get a busy signal! I live in an area where dialing one's neighbor is not free. Some time ago, I noticed when using my (clamshell) cellphone, that just closing the clamshell did not end the call. One had to press the End-Call button. I'm wondering whether such a button exists on conventional phones so that I can press it first prior to hanging up the receiver.

If you use a Sipura or Grandstream, you can log into the web admin page and see if a phone call is still active or not. I don't recall ever having the problem you are describing with these pieces of equipment, although I think I did have this often with the X-lite softphone, especially with weird (annoying) behaviour of one side hanging up not terminating the call but the other end kept hearing silence and never got a disconnect tone. I don't actually think there is an end-call button in VOIP phones beyond simply depressing the hook (which is of course the traditional way to end-calls on PSTN phones too!).

Thanks for the constructive remarks. Actually, the problem isn't VOIP-related. I'm in the process of buying an ATA, and haven't yet connected one. The problem is regular PSTN calling and perhaps may have something to do with the fact that the service provider is in Latin America - where I live. Their equipment may be tweaked to increase revenue in ways that might be legally actionable in the United States. The next time it happens, I'll phone my number with a cellphone to see if there's a busy signal. It could be the phone is giving a false "signal". It's a SouthWestern Bell Freedom Phone, model FM2575.
