| | RE: Beginning of the End for the ATA? (comment) The ATA is simply too useful. It can be configured in a variety of ways with a variety of existing phone systems. If the user wants to connect to their existing phone, simply go outside and disconnect the incomming line. Then take a phone cable and plug it into the ATA on one end and a spare phone jack on the other, old PSTN now equals new VOIP without the expense of new phones. This article is simply off base. |

If PSTN was cheaper than voip than how many here would have switched simply because of better features? Not many I am guessing. So if the have to buy expensive new VTECH / Uniden or other VOIP phones it will just appear to not be worth it. They will still have nearly the same complexity as the ATA, just slightly less wiring by a single cable.
Now as to you car/horse comment, it has no purpose to make general comment that attack a poster without contributing to the discussion. It is not even an appropiate analogy. For most, we are simply talking about cheaper phone service. What do horses and cars have to do with the discussion? |

Enjoy VoIP to it's fullest.
I personally own 4 ATAs and a Sipura 841 and use them all.
This is why I don't do standup comedy for a living. If my attempts a humor offend you, then my apologies and I invite you not to read any of my posts.

I own two 1001 adaptors. | No problem! Welcome aboard! You will find that the people that populate this forum are generally very helpful. If you have any questions, this is the place to ask!
For the record, I have a 2000, 2100, 3000, 841 and a Grandstream 486. One can never have too many Sipuras!

| | Dear All,
I will make a point here: in this forum we are all interested in the mere technical issues of Voip.....the guys in the article, running big companies, do not worry much about technical issues....they really worry most about profit!
I have to be honest I really admire persons like PhoneBoy or Mberlant ready to sacrifice their personal time to help common people like me solving their problems with ATAs and getting into Voip a bit more!
Thank you all anyway! |

| | Beginning of the End for the ATA? (comment) Aw, shucks.
Seriously, regarding the meat of the article, the ratio of customers I encounter is split pretty evenly between those who would be best served by an ATA and those who would do better with a cordless SIP phone. (Can you split a ratio?)
Personally, I find a dedicated SIP cordless too constrained for my own use.
