Default ISP blocking VOIP ports

My SPA-2100 VOIP service suddenly stoped working in Oman. I heard that some middle eastern countries have blocked VOIP ports.

Is there any work around to make my VOIP work in these counties ?

Test your ports with this program, http://www.voipuser.org/port_forward_tester.html , and see if the ports SIP uses are truly being blocked or not. If so, you could try changing the SPA-2100's ports (SIP and RTP) to ones that the port testing program confirms are unblocked.

You may want to try Vbuzzer... It uses port 80...

ctylor: I tried that utility but the utility is working (gives a "Failed" response to all ports )and people in the support forum also had the same problem.

I am using a VOIP service in Oman through a Canadain company that uses SIP Port: 5060 I guess Oman tel must be blocking port 5060 because some of my friends who used to make long distance call through ICONNECT are also not being able to make calls aswell. Skype is working fine.

I can change the SIP Port in my SPA2100 so will I be able to use any other SIP Port to regain my VOIP service.

It shouldn't give failed to every single port number if you tried it using ports that you allow in any software firewall you have up and forward to your computer's private IP in any hardware NAT router you may be running. I just tested on a port I have opened up in my router's virtual server and in the XP SP2 firewall, and it gives me a green [PASSED] comment, so at least I know the program works as intended.

Basically, if that program tells you [FAILED] and you have no firewall/NAT on your side blocking that port, then that port is completely blocked by the ISP at its end. Make sure you run this program with your computer in the DMZ of the router or have the ports forwarded to it in the router, and that any software firewall you are running will let in unsolicited communication from those ports. In the case ports 5060-5070 really are blocked, maybe something like port 5004 might work.

Thank you ctylor, I will try it once again.

VBuzzer is NOT working in Oman.

I downloaded the Vbuzzer softphone with a Canadian phone number. When someone calls me the softphone rings and I can see thier number. However when I answer it it get pure silence. Same thing happens when I call some one; they can see my number but when they pick up they hear pure silence.

It seems that Skype is the only VOIP service working in Oman because of the ISP issue.

Is there a work around to make my SPA-2100 work in Oman with Vbuzzer

You'll probably need the port changed on the other end as well. I don't know about Oman, but this trick used to work with the UAE. Recently it stopped working.

If you want to try it, first simply put a different port in the registration line, e.g. sip.voxyphone.com:2800 and see what happens. People have reported that this works better than than changing the sip port in the appropriate box. Don't ask me why.

Also, with iconnect, your friends should e-mail them privately. Their chief engineer is an Israeli and could give a **** about Omantel.

Stufried,

Yes something like that can be done but it has to be supported by the service provider right? If not I have to run my own SIP server in Canada and connect via a VPN to my brother in Oman.
