RE: unlocked device and locked in anyway It is a shame that you feel deceived. Perhaps "lulled into a false sense of security" is a better description. Every one of us read, acknowledged and accepted the same Terms of Service from our respective VoIP service providers. Tney all say, basically, that there are no service level promises or guarantees and that the provider can therefore never be held liable for direct or indirect losses. They all say that VoIP is an adjunct, not a replacement, for ordinary telephone service.
Despite all of this, we have been riding a wave of great competition and high reliability and have come to largely forget the rules of engagement laid out in the ToS. The problems we are experiencing now remind us how vulnerable VoIP really is, and how we need to protect our flanks like the providers have been warning all along.
