Default Today I asked BV customer service...

...why they don't change the website to indicate they can do LNP and why they don't update the online tool so it gives accurate answers about whether a number can be ported. (For example, the site says my 212 number can't be ported; the customer rep said his tool wasn't foolproof either but indicated it could likely be ported.)

Any way, his answer was something like if they advertised this LNP capability, they would be deluged with requests and "wouldn't have room for all the numbers." What on earth do you think he meant by that? Could I have misunderstood and he meant something completely different? Informed speculation welcome. Thanks.

You will just have to check every so often. I wish I could port my number to them too :-) I would think that they have to wait till they get enough clients in a certain area or perhaps they have to show that they are using a certain percentage of the numbers they are currently allocated before being allowed to obtain more.

Anyone else wish to speculate?

The CLEC they use as their LNP agent (which is probably the same CLEC they buy their DIDs from) has to have a presence in the wire center that "owns" the telephone number you wish to port. If you can get a BV DID number in the same wire center that your POTS number is in you have a good chance of getting the POTS number ported over. If you are forced to get a "local" number that is really a couple of towns away from you, the chances are not so good.

Mind you that area code means nothing of course and their online system is garbage. You would be best to download voipbuster.com, put the deposit in 10 euros you can use towards LD calls (US and many other locations are free) and call up customer service directly.

It seems odd that they would not provide a number for Portland (larger metro area) butprovide them for other smaller towns in oregon..

Could you please define "garbage"? Is it because you can't find a number in the Rate Center you want?
