Default Switching devices remotely

Hi,
New BV customer. Very happy so far.

I have my softphone configured and working. I have a cisco phone configured and working, but obviously not at the same time (according to the BV terms of service).

So the question is: if I forget to unplug the cisco, and then need to use the softphone when I'm not at home - what can I do?
I guess either
a) The softphone registers and kicks off the cisco.
b) The softphone won't register because the cisco is still connected
c) They both register and my account gets terminated.

Any ideas?
thanks,
Richard

Default RE: Switching devices remotely

The answer is d), where d = some of a, some of b and maybe c.

Technically, the two devices will play tug-of-war with each other over custody of the Dial Tone, as each one reregisters every 30 seconds or so. Do this enough and you may catch the attention of BV's fraud folks. Make simultaneous calls from two locations and you will definitely awaken the fraud giant.

If you can remotely access your Cisco phone from the road you should be able to disable the Line.

That's what I do when I'm remote. I fwd a port on my router to my VoIP adapter so I can access it remotely and disable it, so I can use my softphone.
