Default SPA-3000: PSTN & VoIP?

Greetings,

I hope I am able to convey my thoughts properly and not mislead anyone. I was reading a little about the SPA-3000 and I am curious if you can take such a device, plug in your PSTN line, turn up your VoIP service, and basically have your SPA-3000 negotiate which line to call out on based on dial plans? This would certainly be a catchy alternative to LNP for me since I still have my landline at present.

Thank you for taking the time to review my post.

Regards,

John

Default RE: SPA-3000: PSTN & VoIP?

The Line 1 Dial Plan controls all of this, and can be made as smooth (and complicated) or simple as you wish.

The most common customization of the Dial Plan sends 911, toll free calls and 7-digit calls out through the PSTN Line. 1+10d Long Distance and 011- international are routed via the VoIP provider. I have also written Dial Plans that facilitate calling the countries included in BV's unlimited plans while making it less likely to call elsewhere accidentally. Override codes are often included to force a call to go via the opposite route. Incoming calls to either the PSTN number or the VoIP number ring on the Line 1 telephone set.

As you peruse the postings here you will find many threads that go further by adapting the Dial Plan to local country requirements, etc. Have fun looking around, and come back here when you want to customize your own Dial Plan (if you haven't found your answer in someone else's question by then).

Cheers.

Michael

mberlant:

I appreciate your insight. I wasn't sure if the device would do such, but you've obviously answered my question. I managed to get my hands on a Sipura User's Guide (approximately 90 pages) within the last hour and I find it very fascinating to read through. I'm hooked already, and I'll be purchasing the SPA-3000 to suit my needs soon.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I do appreciate it.

Regards,

John
