hi, I have changed the router from a netgear 'G' router to linksys wrt54g hoping for QoS, but I am unable to get the call through. I get the Dial Tone but the call does not go through to any phone, I get the engaged tone all the time. All my pc's, laptops work well. Is there anything I have to do here any setting? I also did not like wrt54g the way that it did not show the devices attached , netgear used to have a list of devices attached and their Ip addresses. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Speedks

You may be having an issue with the application layer. Many router do not pass this thru. I had the same problem, I went and got a cheap actiontec dsl/wifi router and have no more problems. Very common, even though you put it in a dmz, open up the alg layer etc. The docs and manuf. claim that this is not an issue, but either they are lying for some reason, or just really don't kow what they are talking about. luck, topcat139

I don't quite understand.... WRT54g is very VOIP friendly and moreover highly modifyable - there are at least 8 alternative firmwares for it as it is runing linux (up to v.4). So just google it and try. If you happen to have v.5 of the router just exchange it in the shop you bought it for v.4 or lower. Versions are recognizable by the serial number on the box.

I flashed my wrt54g with DD-WRT and, for the first time, I have a solid inbound and outbound sip connection. I used DD-WRT v23 with the SIPath (SIP Express Router w/ web interface) included. Previously I was using different Sveasoft firmware to no avail (note: others have had great success with Sveasoft; I just couldn't get it working for SIP). I did nothing special with my router settings or SIPath other than forwarded UDP ports 5060-5070 (I use this range because I need multiple SIP connections as I have a PBX) and 10000-20000 to my Asterisk server. If it doesn't work with these settings go to the SIPath tab and read the info on using the built-in SIP proxy. DD-WRT is full of features including listing the available and connected wireless devices.

My wrt54g v5 is not working either. Other routers did work. I hope to get a v4 or a wrt54gL, but in the mean time, what can I do to get it to work? Thanks.

| WRT54G and GS Version 5 are completely different devices than the previous versions. Version 5 is not Linux open source and cannot have alternate firmware loaded. Even worse, it appears that this new firmware makes the router Symmetric NAT - completely incompatible with SIP, gaming, etc. See if you can return the router as "unfit for purpose" and exchange it for an older hardware version. You can find a serial number-to-version map at www.linksysinfo.org to help you with packaging that doesn't clearly show the version on the outside of the box.

Guys, Dont buy WRT54G V5 as simple as that. V5 uses VxWorks OS while V4 through V1 uses Linux which is the Big Hit Combination. V4 supposed to be best. Looks like good day over for WRT54G versions. Bad move by Linksys. I returned v5 and got v4

Speedks/bbbeavis/other, have you gotten QoS working with the DD-WRT software? I have tried several versions of Sveasoft on my WRT54GS, and gave up, since QoS does not work with the Sveasoft flashes. I went back to my SMC wired router, and added a wireless gateway. With this setup, I am now not running out of connections all the time, like I did with the linksys and my P2P apps. Rebooting the router every 1-2 days were the rule. Now rebooting the SMC it is a rare occurance, and mostly due to me poking around. I now have a setup where I just limit upload speed, and then my SIP-phones work most of the time. And when they do not work, 9 times out of 10 it is due to the provider, and not my local network. On that rare occasion, choppines is the usual phenomena, and when it happens I just pause the P2P app.

Regarding SPA-1001/Broadvoice and DD-WRT: Did you actually turn on SIPath? I'm going to be setting this up by my brother and want to know what works, from the get-go. I thought that SIPath needs some manual information which would need an unlocked TA? (I also need to install the VOIP firmware, if that's what I plan on using.) Did you use Port Forwarding or Triggering? Were you able to leave on the SPI firewall? (I read someone who had to turn it off). I'm 'afraid' of trying it and having it work -- but then have him have problems 'sometimes'... These devices dont always use the same ports for each call, so it's difficult to really test if all is well, before I leave. Regarding QoS: I use QoS with DD-WRT v23 and it works quite well. Even while doing a speedtest, I have no inbound or outbound dropouts. I haven't tried it using Broadvoice - but with ATT Callvantage and also a DTA-310 and Stanaphone/VoipStunt.
