| I have an unlocked PAP2 v2 I'm using with Broadvoice. I used CYT with its generic config, I updated the proxy and registrar server addresses, userid/pw. Thats about it. I'm able to make and receive calls. Call quality is good. However, I've noticed the following missing behavior so far that I'm hoping someone could help me with. 1. If someone calls and hangs up, the phone keeps ringing long after they gave up. 2. The time on my phone is incorrect. When it was Vonage, the phone had the correct time. Where does this come from? I don't see an entry for ntp_id that Broadvoice specifies. 3. Need help with the dialplan. 7 digit dialing delays before actually calling. Whats the standard dialplan? 4. Dialing 933 is supposed to give you status on your 911 connection. I get a fast busy. 5. The PAP2 v2 seems to constantly be talking on the internet even when the phone is not in use. Is this normal? When Vonage it would show a little activity once every few seconds. Now its constant. Is there a more complete generic configuration available somewhere so that I could guess at some of the many available fields in the PAP2 v2 configuration? Thanks! | Hi there, here are some answers to your questions. 1. This happened to me too, turns out I had to tweak my voicemail settings in my phone adapter. I do not have the PAP2, I have the Sipura SPA-2100, but there should be something you can alter in the PAP2 admin interface. For me, on the User 1 tab under Voice is VMWI Ring Policy. I have it set to New VM Arrives, which means my phone will ring once when I have voicemail waiting, no matter how many messages are in my voicemail. The other two options I tried (New VM Available and New VM Becomes Available) gave one ring for each voicemail message in my queue. That means if I have five voicemails waiting, after someone calls you and hangs up, your phone will ring the number of times to match the number of waiting voicemails. Adjacent to VMWI Ring Policy on the admin page is Ring On No New VM, I have that set to No. 2. Again, for me with the SPA-2100, under the Router tab and WAN Setup there are options for Primary and Secondary NTP Server. By default, mine are set to ntp.nasa.gov and time.nist.gov. I have noticed that during the winter, the clock on my phone never adjusts to match Eastern Standard Time...not sure why this is. BroadVoice does have their own NTP server, ntp.broadvoice.com, therefore maybe they somehow override the Primary and Secondary NTP Servers on the phone device's admin page with their own server, which they don't adjust for Standard Time? I don't know, but you can try fiddling around with the settings and different NTP servers. 3. 7 digit dialing? I never tried it. I've always used 10 digit dialing, so I'm afraid I can't help you there. 4. You're right, 933 is supposed to tell you whether or not 911 service has been activated on your line, but it, too, hasn't worked for me in ages. When I first activated 911 service (almost a year ago?), I dialed 933 and it worked, but since then it has not. 5. I wouldn't worry too much about the activity light. If it's anything like my router, it blinks constantly even if there is seemingly no traffic to send/receive. My cable modem is the same way. |

I've looked at the SIP protocol. Looks like there's a CANCEL method that should be sent. I don't understand why its either not being sent or not being received properly. This was the dealbreaker. I couldn't get this to work, so I ended up cancelling service and going to Vonage. Quote:

| Looks like you solved your problems by going with Vonage. Just to clarify, I wasn't sure if the PAP2 doubled as a router, like the SPA-2100 does. If it doubles as a router, then I wouldn't be surprised if the activity light blinks often, or is even pegged most of the time, a la a cable modem. |
