It's not uncommon if you look back on this forum, as well as on dslreports (I see you there too :-)).
My numbers were working fine prior to this week, so it's not a setup issue.

I'd love nothing more than to have this resolved. But, as it stands, I can't get hold of customer support by any means - POTS-to-CS, email, or 611.

2) 1-800-555-8355 (TELL ME free information service)
3) 611 (BroadVoice support)
Despite the widely reported outages this week, I've been trouble-free until today... Now I get the same results on the following proxies: LAX, NYC & DCA.

Outbound:
1 Calling my BV number works (goes to voice mail)
2 18005558355 works
3 611 works if you like bad mx on hold (and no CS)
4 all other outgoing to local and long distance numbers result in dead air
followed by a fast busy.

Incoming:
Works intermittently (sometimes rings with no audio)

It seems that BV's problem is in interfacing with the PSTN network, as in-network calls seem to work. BTW, I've had no trouble accessing the web portal or the call manager window (which seems to accurately report call status).

I think they're still having problems.

I've got a global crossing number. My incoming calls were broken for the last three days, but I could make outgoing calls during that time.

This morning incoming calls were fixed and now outgoing is broken. I can call 611 and 800 numbers but all other numbers result in dead air followed by a fast busy.

I did call and speak to customer care. They had me try another proxy (with the same results) and said they'd open a trouble ticket. When I asked if they'd email the results, he said yes. They had a new trouble ticket system that would mail me status info. That's a big improvement for their customer support. Of course, the problem still exists and I haven't gotten any mail yet.

jmvox2 since you didn't go down earlier this week you must not be a global crossing customer, but I see you're in LA. I wonder if it's somehow a regional problem since it works for some people and not others.

I'm just happy that incoming is working again. I configured BV to fall back to my land lind if it can't reach my Asterisk box for any reason. I've also got multiple outgoing VOIP services and the land line as a backup. The only thing I couldn't make redundant is the number people call me on. So what happens? That fails! Murphy at his best.

My BV number is 310 943-9xxx which appears to be a Global Crossing number (http://www.telcodata.us/telcodata/telco). We primarily use the BV line for outgoing calls, though I check incoming once or twice a day and didn't find any problems until today.

While I can't comment on the incoming call issues, I don't think our current outgoing call problems are related to our local Global Crossing exchange numbers.

Agreed, BV is obviously having more problems then they are letting on to. I for example have a 01 Communications Inc. number (805-910-XXXX) and I have been down the whole time too. Makes no since, the GC outage should not have affected me, so this is why I think BV has a lot more problems then they are fessing up to.

1) Call and request change from BV support; and, or
2) Do it yourself *if* you are setup to do "self-provisioning". [See other posts here in Sipura and other forums for more details].

If you don't understand "self-provisioning" or know what it is, see # 1 -- #2 is not an option for most BV customers.

It is my understand that BV dynamically changes the proxy for ATAs that it controls to the "best choice", but given all the recent problems, there probably isn't one.

BTW: Switching between proxies only addresses some kinds of problems, it is not a cure-all for everything. Also: be sure that your underlying ISP service connection is up and totally reliable or that can really complicate stuff (and be a good excuse for support from any of the VOIP providers to say its not their fault).

Good luck,
- Don

Well I'm finally up and running.

after several attempts (9) I got a hold of Ron at BV support he was very nice.
we tried a few things he called me back in 3 minutes as promissed while trouble shooting the problem.
I asked him what the problem was he said last week it was really bad had to do with global Crossing changing their settings and BV was adapting.
Said when this happens everything goes to hell. Also he mentioned that BV had their own internal problems which resulted in the outage.
After trying changing proxies to MIA (I was originally on LAX and he said that was good and checked outgoing and incoming packets said that was good) and not having success he said he would get a priority ticket out. Within a couple of hours I was up and running. Originally had an echo then I reset the proxy in my spa 1001 to lax and everything is now good.
I do not know what they did on their end but maybe this post will help others.
