I'm new to Broadvoice using a
SPA-3000 (I have the admin password). I have 4/384 Comcast cable, WRT54G router using Alchemy firmware, an ATA-186 connected to Vonage, and the 3000 connected to BV. Both SIP devices have "premium" QOS. Vonage is set to use 30kbps.
Outgoing calls on BV have been a bit choppy using 711u. I swtiched to the Chicago proxy because it's ping time (average 55ms) was about half that of LAX without any packet loss when pinging. Since Chicago offers the 729 codec and the g726-32 codec, I was wondering what people would suggest I try to improve my outgoing call quality. g729a is a smaller bandwidth codec but has a 25ms lag due to the compression algorythm while the g726-32 uses a larger 32kbps codec but has only a 1ms compression time (if I understand condecs properly). So it would seem to me that the g726-32, even though a larger bandwidth codec, is preferable since it is a faster codec to process than g729a. Any ideas?
Secondly, I would like to turn off international dialing, 411, and some other features since my kids mainly use both SIP lines that I have. In my Call Manager, it says something about only administrators can make changes and doesn't allow me to change any of the outgoing call settings. I've tried using Firefox and Internet Explorer. What am I doing wrong? Why am I not the "administrator" when logging in via the web browser?
Otherwise, BV has been good so far. If I can fix the outgoing quality problem, I think I'm fairly happy with the service. I just need to adjust the outgoing codec bandwidth to something smaller than 711u. Thanks for any help.
