How are you provisioned? If you are being provisioned by BV they may be changing which proxy server you home into from time to time, in order to give you the most reliable service. Since G.729 is not a supported CODEC yet, you may be bouncing from a server that supports it to one that does not, as the day progresses.

g.729 is the codec most cellular phones implement. Most of the BV proxies are only configured to support g.711u (mu-law/N. American standard).

If I find a particular proxy server that's not a "PROXY SERVER" (ie: proxy.lax.broadvoice.com, instead of proxy-lax.broadvoice.com) that will not support g.729 (Esp if I hard code my SIP1001 to outdial g.729 only) then I get dead air on that proxy. If I revert or allow codecs to change, I can almost always get a dialtone on any of the outbound proxies I specify.

Broadvoice has limited licenses for G.729, as such sometimes you can snag one for a call sometimes you cant.
