Default New to BV. Need a little help with the PAP2-NA Qos

I just signed up with Broadvoice. Actually I bought it for my parents for Christmas. My parents just moved back from Germany. So my mother uses this A LOT to call Germany.

I purchased a PAP2-NA. I put in the Profile Rule from BV. Once it configured itself I went back in and changed a couple of minor things. I removed the profile rule string. I put the codec to G711u, set use pref codec only to yes and put the rest of G7xxx to NO. DTMF TX Method is Auto. The other thing I changed was, I increased the FXS Port Input/Output Gain because my mother said other people have a hard time hearing her.

The main problems we are having is when calling Germany it seems like there is a long delay / call drops and sometimes will not even connect. Are there any settings I can check or change to increase the Qos?

VOIP is new to me, but I have been doing networking for a while now.

Setup:
PAP2-NA on static IP and set in the DMZ

I have also tried different proxy servers. I even tried lowering the codec to G726-xx and that worked for a while, but when I set it to the dca proxy server all inbound calls were busy. So no incoming calls were working, only outbound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to get this setup before I leave back to FL since they live in PA.

Thanks,

Patrick

Default RE: New to BV. Need a little help with the PAP2-NA Qos

You have probably unnecessarily constrained your ATA so that it no longer has the freedom to choose the best available CODEC for each call. I recommend that you reset everything back to where it was when you started, with the exception of the gain settings that you actually had a reason to change.

Also, unless you have a Symmetric NAT router (only about 2% of today's routers are) you should undo the static IP address and DMZ entry and let the router do its work, as well.

As for QoS, how much bandwidth are you working with? It is unlikely that your parents are big gamers or are doing anything else on their LAN that would steal bandwidth from the ATA, so implementing QoS would not likely improve that aspect of the service.

Of course, the simplest way to support your parents from Florida would be to hand provisioning responsibility back to BroadVoice and ask them to tweak your profile to increase the gain settings.

If you are set on managing this provisioning yourself from Florida you will find a wealth of help here in the forums, as everything you mention has been discussed at length right here.
