| I have an issue of constrained outbound bandwidth for the next few weeks and wanted to select a lower bandwidth codec than the g.711u that my SPA3000 defaults to when using Broadvoice. Here are the things I've tried: 1) Change preferred codec to g.729a -- Although it is set to preferred, I still connect using g.711u 2) Change preferred codec to g.729a and set use preferred codec only -- This results in a busy signal when attempting to dial out and inbound calls go straight to voicemail. 3) Did the same as 1 and 2 selecting g.726-24 with the same results. 4) Did the same as 1 and 2 selecting g.726-32 with the same results. Does anyone know how to force a codec other than g.711u with Broadvoice and an SPA3000 successfully? Thanks for the assistance. --Louis |

| Talked to Richard at Broadvoice. He tells me that both g.729a and g.726-32 are available on the Chicago proxy only, at this time. For those wanting to use these codecs you'll have to proxy through Chicago. --Louis |

| That certainly is cool. My favorite codec is g.726-32 and hopefully soon they will offer it on all their proxys. If I ever get the motivation to get rid of Vonage, I'll definately consider Broadvoice. In my mind they seem to be the best for "power users" and lack of choice of codecs was the only thing I thought was holding them back. I wonder if they are as reliable as Vonage? Someone ought to do a forever running test on the same internet connection showing percentage up time for each Voip provider! |

| I too got a free 1month USA/Canada account from broadvoice. But it works with G711u codec, and in this part of India bandwidth is a real issue. i contacted broadvoice and they replied that they only support g711 codec. in this discussion forum i found reply that chicago server has support for other g729 codec. so can anybody guide me how to select chicago server in the configuration. thanks Mufaddal |

| If your device is controlled by BroadVoice, you have to call them. Otherwise, you can just reconfigure it using the Wizard here on Voxilla.

| Also, remember that the G.729 CODEC is only available for outbound calls. All inbound calls on all gateways are only G.711.

| I saw that Mlabert said that all incoming calls are still 711u, but this must no longer be true. I have set my sipura 1001 to prefer 726-32, and incoming calls and outgoing calls are on all on the 726-32 codec. Why are incoming calls now on the prefered codec? |
