May I know what happen if I have both Cisco ATA 186 & XTen Softphone up at the same time? Would I get dial tone at both phones?

Thanks.

Default RE: Cisco ATA 186 & XTen Softphone up at the same time

You will get a Dial Tone at both places, but you won't be able to use it for one technical and one legal reason.

Technically, since BV's SIP servers are configured for one simultaneous registration, your two clients would be playing a constant tug-of-war for which one is really connected. Every 15 seconds or so, one client would register and steal the registration away from the other client. 15 seconds later the other client would do likewise and steal the registration back.

Legally, it is against BroadVoice's Terms of Service, which you agreed to when you signed up, to operate the service from more than one client device at a time. If you violate this provision BroadVoice has the right to charge you a penalty, restrict your service or suspend or cancel your account. Currently, they are tending to restrict service and send you an email notifying you of the violation.
