Default Caller ID by name?

Does BV use the Display Name field for outgoing calls on the Sipura?

Just wondering because all my calls to other people just show up as "Illinois Call" along with my phone number.

If they don't use the value set in the Display Name field is there anyway to get my name displayed using the name setup on the BV account? Is a call to Customer Service in order or does this feature just not exist for outbound calls on BV?

Thx

Depends on a number of factors as to whether or not it it will work, but you must call them to set the outgoing name.

Or if you provision your device through Voxilla you can set the name yourself. But keep in mind it's up to the various switches as to what CID information is passed. I see that BV provides full CID info to "in-network" callers but once you route to a PSTN it's a toss up as to what gets passed.

I belive its the recieving end that looks up the caller name. For example when I call a SBC POTS Line using my BV line. Broadvoice is sending the correct Caller Name Info but if the connecting SBC switch doesnt lookup the name info or doesnt do it properly then the lookup will fail and the default "Wireless Caller" will come up. Its really hit or miss when it comes to Ma Bell.

That's right, Steve. Let me give an example. When I use my PSTN line to call my BroadVoice line, I get the Caller ID I expect (namely my name). When I call my VoicePulse line, I get a completely different name. Each provider has its own number to name lookup database and they don't always update frequently.

Broadvox Direct (a different company) allows you to change your Caller ID name online. Jeff Williams (their CIO) told me that it takes about four weeks for changes to propagate.
