Default Call Quality

Call quality seems to have become much worse in the past few days for both domestic and international calls.

Domestic is barely usable with frequent drop outs and garbling.

International is worse.

No, it's not my ISP/connection. I can use IChat AV on 10.4 for perfect video conferences to europe or Skype without any of the broadvoice artificats -- and those connections are going through the public internet.

Does anybody have some ideas on why BroadVoice is losing on QoS and what they are doing to fix it?

They were doing so well on this count before May.....

Second your opinion. International calls have been unsuccessful for weeks, while the quality for domestic ones are deteriating, from excellent (pre-May) to barely fair today. I will give BV a little bit more time to recover, but will definitely switch if this is their final call. I am waiting for the grand opening of ViaTalk (*rumor*: tomrrow will be their day).

"barely fair" - that sounds like the poor rating I give them - service (domestic for me) has been unusable. They told me to switch from the mia to the nyc proxy, and that had potential, until nyc starting failing registrations this afternoon (before I could try my first real call).

Well, my quality has been good, bordering on excellent. I have had fantastic results calling both internationally (Sweden, Estonia, and Finland) and domestically (California, Utah, and Alaska). I have also noticed that the quality has been improving almost every day since service was restored. This leads me to think that BV is almost completely back up on their end although no one can know for sure. I have been experiencing DTMF issues for a few days although I think messing with my configuration might resolve the issue.

It's kind of hard to consolidate hundreds of destination variables into one composite rating, but I settled on "good". For me right now, calls to US and Canada are excellent, as are calls to Australia, UK and Norway. Calls to Japan and Singapore are good, and calls to Taiwan are fair (improved from poor before the troubles began). Inbound quality is also excellent.

I am currently on DCA, although that has no bearing on quality variability between destinations.

I am noticing different call qualities depending on who the provider on the other end is.

It would be nice to learn how well each broadvoice peering is working. So, people might want to mention this information, if they know.

I have discover that calls to tmobile subscribers are pretty good.

We will probably see the misperforming peers decline as they shake out the new configuration....

I tried LAX from here in Florida and still had the warbling broken audio problem although the effect sounded different than through DCA and/or MIA. I was talking to someone in Orange County, CA.
