It seems it's not a matter of should. It's just whatever enables you to dial non-800 numbers.

I think I'm just going to delete all those feature codes on the regional tab. I guess we can restore them easily enough with our new tool.

It is safe to delete these star codes in order to let them flow through to the BV switch for action. A factory reset of your Sipura will bring them all back whenever you want.

Are none of these *codes handled by the Sipura itself when using BV? Are we certain that we should delete all of them when using BV?

BTW: with the Sipura2100, taking those out of the "regional" tab affects *both* services provisioned by the 2100. This might be sub-optimal.

TIA,
- Don

ps: I may be off-base but I see relying upon factory reset on a Sipura as similar to fixing everything in Windoze with CTL-ALT-DEL or even factory reinstall. I'm not sure I want to reset all of my various techno-bizarre bits back to the factory haze - finding and setting some of them otherwise took plowing thru a bunch of posts here.

and, oh yeah, can I repeat this open question:
"If we have a Sipura2100 (using BV or anyone else), should we change DTMF Process INFO: to NO and DTMF process AVT: to NO? "

I apologize for the factory reset comment and understand fully the Ctrl-Alt-Del metaphor. Actually, a more appropriate metaphor would be when you call up your PC manufacturer's help desk to ask how to configure a new printer and they recommend reinstalling the OS.

Yes, it is a known limitation that BV requires star codes to be sent to their switch for processing, whereas most other providers prefer that the star codes be captured by the ATA and converted into SIP command packets to be sent to the switch.

A reasonable workaround is to add the Dial Plan element <#:*>xxx. to your BV Dial Plan instead of deleting the SPA's star codes. Then, when you want to send the command to BV's switch you dial #xx instead of *xx and the SPA will translate the code and send it on its way.

Does this work only if the PSTN line has caller ID feature? If so, voice mail on my PSTN phone set would have to be disabled. Is this correct?

Yes, this is correct. You cannot have two different entities (SPA-3000 and PSTN voice mail) occupying the "choice of last resort" position in the decision tree. In order for this to work you need to have Caller ID performing the decision of who rings the Line 1 telephone (and goes to PSTN voice mail if nobody answers) and who gets answered by the SPA-3000's PSTN-to-VoIP function.

Polo,

You could try setting the SIP port on PSTN Line to the same 5060 value as Line 1. Some people have reported that this convinces the BV switch that you are not cheating.

Michael
