Default BV Reccomends eliminating phone company

Hello all,

I just found a funny ad on the BV website homepage. It says:
"configure asterisk to work with broadvoice voip service and eliminate the need for the phone company". Are they leading us to believe that we should disconnect our phone company lines or does that mean something else? Should we save a couple cans and a string just in case?

I must admit I can't give up my standard phone line, if nothing more than for the fact that when the power is out I have dial tone and know things will work. I enjoy my BV server (when it's up) but it isn't even close to replacing a POTS line. No VoIP contender is due to the requirements (power, internet access).

However, I can't take my POTS line on the road with me, which I can do with BV. Horses for courses....

Personally I use my cell phone + BroadVoice. No POTS.

I've been tempted to do the same but just haven't made the leap. I have an old phone connected directly to POTS within the house (i.e., not cordless). It's old technology, but extremely realiable. There is no ambiguity in my location, either, if I ever need emergency services. I know, I know -- it's ultra-paranoid but there you go.

PLEASE
They can't be serious...
They can't keep the service running if their life depended on it, and when it does work we still have all the issue on reaching certain phones numbers and area codes that no one at Broadvoice has been able to figure out.

Disconnect the POTS LINES? I am ready to disconnect my 15 broadvoice lines instead.

Gus, I feel your pain. I too am also an IT Administrator. What is your plan of action to disconnect since you can't take the BV numbers with you? I think we are going to just forget about them. Of course we will have to spend another 2K to reprint our marketing material.
