Default Broadvoice supporting Grandstream 486 Bridge mode

Hi there,
Don't know if this is the right place to post or if I should post in the Grandstream forum.
Anyway, I've been using Broadvoice service for over a month in the BYOD plan. I have a Grandstream 486 and was using it as another LAN point on my router. Now I am trying to set it up in bridge mode to place it between cable modem and router.

The thing is when I connect only the WAN port, the ATA obtains an IP address and everything functions properly (still in bridge mode), but if I connect it to the router then it doesn't get an IP which I think is the way it should work while bridging. However I don't get a dial tone.

I am thinking it has something to do with Broadvoice config instead of the ATA's config, but I would appreciate advice.

Default RE: Broadvoice supporting Grandstream 486 Bridge mode

Bridge mode requires that each endpoint has its own IP address. Generally, you pay your ISP for two IP addresses and they assign them to you. Then, dependent upon your ISP you will either configure each device (your Grandstream and your router) with its own fixed IP address or you will set each device for DHCP and your ISP will issue the two IP addresses you have subscribed for.

If you have subscribed to only one IP address your two devices are fighting over it. Only one can have the address at a time and neither will work properly, so I wouldn't be so quick to lay blame on your ATA or BroadVoice.

Mberlant,
Thanks for the response. I have only one ip with my ISP so this is probably the case. I will get in touch with them and see if they support assigning two ip's.

If only one ip is available, is there a way to circumvent the problem?

Is there some reason why you can't put the SPA behind your router? Most people don't have trouble in that configuration.

Alternatively, is there something stopping you from putting your other router behind the SPA?

I just wanted to use the HT486's QoS so I can make normal use of network while still having good voice quality.

I only have one router so it would have to go behind the SPA and I have the ip limitation.
