Default Which Ports to open on a router

I have an asterisk server running at home behind a belkin router. I have Broad Voice and using Xten's eyebeam as the soft phone on my PC and laptop. Everything works fine when I am home but when I try to use the laptop from office I do not get any audio from either side. What ports apart from 5060-5061 do I need to allow on the router? Any help will be appreciated. I created a new entry for office phone where nat=yes is defined but I still have no audio. Thanks.

Default RE: Which Ports to open on a router

Most of the time, its just 10000-20000 - but I have one provider that has 16xxx-16yyy (forgot the exact ports). I'd do a quick search in BVs faq, hopefully they have it there, but more than likely its 10K to 20K ---- did you not have to open any ports (other than 5060-6061) at home? That's weird if that is true, and you got it to work with just those ports on the Belkin Router, but at work you open the same ports ---- anyway, I'll just wait until you answer. --- Good luck.

I have just opened 5060-5061 to forward to my Asterisk box's IP and I am able to connect and at least make a connection. I will do more research and experimentation on the ports for voice. The problem is that I cannot make changes to router configuration while at work and cannot test the connection from office when home :cry:

An asterisk box requires the follow port configuration in your router....

4569 - AIX2
5004 thru 5082 - SIP
10001 thru 20000 - RTP

Today i tested after opening up the ports as suggested but still no luck. I tested something I did not test before and that was communication between phone inside and outside the NAT. The softphone outside the NAT can hear the person from inside but not the other way round. If I call a PSTN phone from outside NAT softphone then there is no audio in any direction. Do I need to set up a proxy of some sort? Thanks for any help.

Have you tried adding:

nat=yes
externip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ;change the x's to you external ip
localnet=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ;change this to match you internal network i.e. 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0

in the sip_nat.conf file? I'm not sure but it may help.

Tom

I already have nat=yes and localnet to correct values. Since I do not have a static IP I did not put externip.
