Voice path : SPA-3k & Asterisk

I have the SPA-3k and Asterisk combo set up and configured using the Voxilla wizard. Works great for the most part - BUT still seeing some intermittent voice quality issues.

One question I have is the following : when calling from the FXS port to a * PSTN trunk (routed out via the FXO port on the SPA-3k) I often get choppy voice. Both FXS and FXO ports register as independent extensions on * in this case. My observation is that the voice packets actually go via the * server when really there is no need to do that. So I want to eliminate the server as a source of the problem and would like the SPA-3k to route voice packets internally. Any suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated.
