Default upgrading from CVS

Would someone here be able to help a Linux newbie in upgraing his * install? I see great notes the outline installing from tarball, but they relate to very old code. I'd like to upgrade my server from CVS 01/24/04 to something recent. I know that they have branched out to other forks in CVS. I think I want CVS HEAD, but not sure how to achieve this upgrade.

Thanks,
Michael

When you pull the files from CVS, do a "make upgrade" and it will leave your configuration files intact.

If you don't specify a specific CVS release, then I believe you will get the most recent version. Don't confuse the HEAD date which appears in your compiled version with the release date of the code you're using. A simple way to test - try removing your existing asterisk source and updating from CVS again.
